    A refreshing chilled dessert.

    TRIFLE DESSERT - Posted by LuAnn for CNC. Adapted from a recipe shared with me by an English friend. She layers this in a large pretty clear glass bowl, using "proper" custard mix, rather than instant pudding, and unsweetened whipped heavy cream rather than non-dairy whipped topping.

    List of Ingredients




    1 premade sponge cake layer OR 1 premade pound cake, torn or cut in cubes
    2 - 3 cups cut fresh fruit such as strawberries, bananas, raspberries, or drained canned fruit such as fruit cocktail, peaches, etc.
    1 (lg. size) strawberry, cherry or raspberry (or whatever flavor will go well with the fruit you're using) gelatin dessert mix ("Jello") made according to package directions, EXCEPT substitute any juices from drained fruit for an equal amount of the cold water used to prepared the gelatin.
    1 large box instant vanilla, lemon or banana pudding, prepared according to package directions
    1 (8-ounce container) non-dairy whipped topping ("Cool Whip")
    Maraschino cherries and/or slivered almonds , optional

    Recipe



    In a large shallow glass dish, layer cake cubes, cut fruit, and dissolved gelatin. Chill until gelatin is set. Prepare instant pudding according to package directions and spread evenly over the gelatin. Chill until firm. Spread non-dairy whipped topping over chilled pudding layer. If desired, garnish with maraschino cherries and/or slivered almonds.
