    5 c flour
    1 1/2 c powdered sugar, sifted
    2 tbsp baking powder
    1 c butter
    3 eggs
    1 tbsp pure vanilla or almond extract

    Recipe



    Sift flour & measure. Resift w/ sugar & baking powder onto a flat surface. Cut shortening into dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Make a well in flour & break eggs into it. Add vanilla & knead dough well for about 5 - 8 minutes until it is smooth, adding a little more flour if dough seems to soft & sticky. Pinch off bits of dough about the size of a golf ball & form into desired shapes. Cookies may be baked as rings,
    strips, or in letters, such as S. Place 1" apart on greased cookie sheets & bake in hot 450° for 10 - 11 minutes, until golden brown. Be careful, as these burn easily. Makes about 4 dozen.
