Bar-Chocolate Pecan Pie Squares

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter softened
1 package milk chocolate chips, (11.5-ounces)
1 cup corn syrup
3 eggs
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter melted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup pecans chopped
Whipped cream or ice cream optional

Cookie Base:
In a small bowl, combine flour, sugar, soda and salt. Cut in 1/4 cup butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Press evenly into foil-lined and greased 13-by-9-inch baking pan. Bake at 350F. for 7 minutes.
Pecan Pie Filling: Melt over hot (not boiling) water, milk chocolate chips; set aside.
In large bowl combines corn syrup, eggs, sugar, 1/4 cup butter and salt; beat well. Blend in melted chocolate. Stir in pecans. Pour filling over warm cookie base. Bake at 350ƒF. 35 to 40 minutes. Cool. Cut into 3-inch squares. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
