    Candy Cane Cookies -- Serves 48

    List of Ingredients


    • 1/2 Cup Butter
    • 1/2 Cup Shortening
    • 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
    • 1 Egg
    • 1-1/2 tsp Almond Extract
    • 1 tsp Vanilla
    • 2-1/2 Cup Flour
    • 1 tsp Salt
    • Red Food Coloring
    • 1/2 Cup Crushed Peppermint Candy (opt)
    • 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar (opt)


    Instructions


    1. Preheat oven to 375.

    2. Mix thoroughly butter, shortening, powdered sugar, egg, almond extract, and vanilla.

    3. Blend in flour and salt

    4. Divide dough in half; blend food coloring into half of the dough.

    5. Shape 1 tsp dough from each half of the dough into 4 inch ropes. For smooth even ropes, roll them back and forth on a lightly floured board.

    6. Place ropes side by side; press together lightly and twist. Complete cookies one at a time.

    7. Place on an ungreased baking sheet; curve top of cookie down to form handle of cane.

    8. Bake about 9 minutes or until set and very light brown.

    9. If you wish, mix 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy and 1/2 cup granulated sugar.

    10. Immediately sprinkle cookies with candy mixture; remove from baking sheet.
